Long Island Sound and Connecticut Boarding Location

Long Island Sound & Connecticut

Pilotage for U.S. coastwise, U.S. registered, and any foreign vessel is available for arrivals/departures to/from sea for all Long Island Sound ports. Shifting between harbors and docking services for all berths in all Sound harbors are also available.

Effective Planning

Port of New York / New Jersey

Pilotage for U.S. coastwise vessels is available for arrivals/departures to/from sea to New York and New Jersey berths in New York Harbor. Shifting within the harbor and docking services for all berths are available for all U.S. and foreign vessels.

Deleware Bay Boarding Location

Delaware Bay & River to Philadelphia

Pilotage for U.S. coastwise vessels for arrivals/departures to/from sea, and shifting, including C&D canal, is available for all ports.

Deleware Bay Boarding Location

C&D Canal to the Port of Baltimore & the Chesapeake Bay

Pilotage for U.S. coastwise vessels for arrivals/departures to/from sea and shifting. Transiting the C&D canal to/from the Delaware Bay and River to the Port of Baltimore and Chesapeake Bay, is available for all ports.

Point Judith    

  • Pilots boat: Interport Pilot III
  • VHF channel 11 monitored thirty minutes prior to boarding.
  • Pilot ladder should be rigged 5 ft (1.5m) above the water.

Ambrose & Scotland Sea Buoys

  • Pilot boats: Interport Pilot and Ken Johnson
  • VHF channel 65A monitored thirty minutes prior to boarding.
  • Pilot ladder should be rigged 5 ft (1.5m) above the water.

Cape Henlopen

  • Delaware Bay Launch
  • VHF channel 09 & 14 monitored two hours prior to boarding between the "CH" and #6 buoy.
  • Pilot ladder should be rigged 5 ft (1.5m) above the water.

Cape Henry

  • Cape Henry Launch
  • VHF channel 08 monitored two hours prior to boarding between the "CH" buoy.
  • Pilot ladder should be rigged 5 ft (1.5m) above the water.

Port to Port

When pilot availability permits, our pilots will remain onboard during passages between Long Island Sound, New York Harbor, and Delaware Bay and River. This service offers our customers further savings in time and expense.

Interport Pilots hold federal licenses for all service areas, New Jersey State docking licenses for New York harbor, and Connecticut State licenses for Block Island Sound, Long Island Sound and all Connecticut ports.

Our staff maintains and operates Interport's three pilot boats that serve New York harbor and Long Island Sound. Dispatcher/phone service operates 24 hours a day. A 36 hour advance notice of arrival is suggested with a 12 and 6 hour update in order to coordinate dispatching of pilots.

Our area of operations extends over six states and includes nearly 300 miles of license coverage. This full service pilot group boards:

  • U.S. coastwise, U.S registered, and any foreign vessel in the domestic and international trades at sea bound for Long Island Sound and Connecticut Ports.
  • U.S. coastwise vessels at sea bound for the Port of NY/NJ.
  • U.S. and foreign vessels for docking and shifting to/from all ports in the Port of NY/NJ.
  • U.S coastwise vessels at sea bound for the Delaware Bay and River to Philadelphia, C&D canal to the Port of Baltimore, and the Chesapeake Bay.
